Counseling and Therapy in Staunton, Va. 24401

Hello . . . I’m Janice

Being honest with yourself about the way(s) your life isn’t working takes courage.   Sharing this with a therapist takes even more courage.  However, it also provides a great opportunity to find what’s preventing you from living the life you want.  It’s an opportunity to move from merely coping (or barely hanging on) to truly thriving.

If you're struggling with anxiety, depression, and/or loneliness, I'm a psychologist who knows how to overcome these. We will work together to support your strengths, find and remove barriers to your happiness, and turn your life into the life you want.  Together we will find your path to joy and abundance.

You are about to start on a journey to a happier and more empowered you.  Psychotherapy, or counseling, is a way to understand yourself and to find your true path.   Having another person to talk with about your goals, dreams, and hopes makes them more possible.

I create a safe environment for clients to talk about their problems and their dreams. I have been working with people for over thirty years helping them identify their dreams and feel less depressed, less anxious, and more understood.  My degree, a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, is the most expert training a psychotherapist can have.  Over those 30+ years of experience I have learned to see the person, not just a diagnosis.  In addition, I'm an expert listener.  People tell me that I'm the best listener they've ever met.  The first thing I'll do in our sessions together is listen, because I understand the value of being heard.  Being listened to and being heard is very healing.  To help make this possible I charge reasonable fees. Within the helping relationship of psychotherapy, we can identify old patterns of thinking and behavior that may be holding you back from the life you want.

One of my specialties is working with people who are experiencing change or life transitions.  Even good change can cause stress and strong emotions.  It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in the midst of a change.  Many changes involve sadness or a sense of loss.  Anxiety and anger may be among the emotions you feel. Often it helps to have a safe, nonjudgmental place to express your thoughts and feelings about the changes in your life.  I provide that.  Change doesn’t have to be traumatic.

Together we can clarify your vision of how you’d like your life to be.  Once that’s done, we’ll identify and reduce road blocks on the path to your ideal life.  Throughout this process, I’ll provide support and coaching as you move towards your ideal life.

Another specialty is working with people residing in independent and assisted living residences.  I provide individual and group work on living your best life.  Getting older doesn't have to mean a restricted life.  One's attitude towards life can make all the difference.  Depression, loneliness, and frustration can be roadblocks to finding and living your best life.
